Terms of Service
These terms apply to the Fame idm Windows
application, the matata download helper browser
extension, and the website at fame.proxaslab.com.
By installing or using either piece of software you agree to the
terms below.
1. Licence
Fame idm and the matata extension are released as free software under the terms in the LICENSE file shipped with the source repository. You may use, copy, modify, and redistribute the software subject to that licence.
2. What the software does
Fame idm is a download manager: it accepts a URL, fetches the bytes at that URL over HTTP(S), and writes them to a file on your computer. The matata browser extension hands URLs from your browser to Fame idm via a local operating-system pipe (Native Messaging). Neither piece of software contacts any server we operate; data flow is described in detail in the Privacy Policy.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use Fame idm only to download content that you have the right to obtain. Examples of acceptable use:
- Backing up files from cloud storage you own.
- Downloading public-domain or openly-licensed material.
- Capturing recordings of content licensed to you (paid subscriptions, your own livestreams, etc.) for personal, offline viewing where the rights-holder permits it.
- Mirroring software you have the right to redistribute.
You agree not to use Fame idm to:
- Circumvent technical protection measures in a way that infringes the rights of the content owner or applicable law.
- Download content you are not licensed to obtain (commercial streaming catalogues protected by DRM, paid material you have not purchased, etc.).
- Conduct denial-of-service attacks or any other activity that would harm a server, a network, or other users.
- Violate the terms of service of the site hosting the file you are downloading.
You are solely responsible for the legality of the content you download with Fame idm.
4. No warranty
The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the use of the software.
5. Updates
The desktop application will check for updates only when you
explicitly request it (Help → Check for updates, or
matata --check-update on the command line). Updates
are delivered through the same channel as the original install
(a signed installer download from
fame.proxaslab.com). The browser extension is updated
through the Chrome Web Store / Firefox Add-ons / Edge Add-ons
channel; you control that update behaviour through your browser's
settings.
6. Third-party services
Fame idm interacts with the file server that hosts the content you ask it to download. That server is operated by a third party and its terms of service apply to your interaction with it. We do not warrant the availability, accuracy, or safety of any third-party content.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The Last updated date at the top of the page will reflect the change. Material changes will also be noted in the release notes shipped with the next version of the affected component.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the authors reside. Any disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
9. Contact
